University of Baltistan, Skardu is a federally chartered university functioning under the "University of Baltistan Order 2016". Since its inception, the university has been playing a key role in the core areas of teaching, research and services. Nestled in the mountains of Himalaya and Karakoram, the geographical location of the university provides a strong foundation for the current and future programmatic and research activities so as to have a long-lasting impact on the lives of the remote mountain communities. Therefore, all the activities in the Directorate of Professional & Skill Development focus on socio-economic development of the region through the provision of relevant professional learning opportunities.

Establishment of the Directorate of Professional & Skill Development is one of the key initiatives of the university to serve the internal and external stakeholders in Gilgit-Baltistan and elsewhere in the country. Thus, provision of contextually relevant professional learning opportunities to the communities within the university and the society is the key mandate of the directorate so as to provide the individuals with wider earning opportunities and social mobility. This will have a positive and transformational impact on the lives of the people.
